JOHNSON CITY - James Thomas Ward, age 91, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. James was born in Old Butler, Tennessee, a son of the late Thomas Wheeler Ward and Dora Lee Forrester Ward. In addition to his parents, James was also preceded in death by a young son, James Allen Ward, and a brother, Junior Ray Ward.
James had worked at Raytheon as a parts expediter and was a United States AirForce veteran, having served in the Korean War. James was of the Pentecostal faith and loved to spend his time reading, watching westerns and especially sharing time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years, Brenda Hicks Ward of the home; his son, Scott Ward of the home; and a sister, Charlotte Hamby of Elizabethton.
A celebration of life for James will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Tuesday.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the Lake View Cemetery in Butler. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve and Angela Barnett and all of James's nieces and nephews. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 PM on Wednesday.
