James "Bill" Snapp April 19, 2024
ELIZABETHTON - James "Bill" Snapp, peacefully passed away at the age of 81, in the presence of family on April 19, 2024, at Hillview Health Care Center, Elizabethton Tennessee, after a lengthy illness.
Bill was raised and lived his entire life on the family farm in Piney Flats, TN. He graduated in 1960 from Mary Hughes High School where he met his future wife and sweetheart, Margaret, in the first grade. Their union would last 52 years before her passing in 2014. He also had lifelong friendships with his classmates from Mary Hughes School.
Bill attended New Bethel Presbyterian Church for most of his life. He was a faithful member and had served as a deacon. He greatly loved his church family.
Bill began his working career with ET & WNC and then went on to retire from Star Transportation. He proudly had over 2 million accident-free miles and traveled to all 48 continental US states during his driving career.
In his free time Bill would be working in his flower beds, tending to his apple trees and tinkering on his tractor. His family nickname was "Rand McNally" for his incredible sense of direction. He was always up for a road trip with family. He enjoyed tubing rivers, hiking, camping, fishing and bird watching, especially the Martins. Bill loved spending time with his family on all occasions. His family loved him very much.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hodge Snapp, his parents JB & Mary Snapp, and grandsons Bailey Snapp and Jacob Grayer. He is survived by his children Carolyn Carrier (Tim), Jamie Snapp (Erin) and Missy Gent (Roger); his grandchildren Courtney Massey (James), Ethan Carrier (Erin), Sydney Snapp, Breece Snapp, Kaden Grayer and Levi Gent (Michelle); and great-grandchildren Adrian Massey and Claire Massey.
Receiving of friends will be at New Bethel Presbyterian Church on Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm with the funeral following. The burial will be at New Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery on Thursday April 25, 2024 at 10:00 am. Both services will be officiated by Reverend Scott Wise. Pallbearers are Ethan Carrier, James Massey, Breece Snapp, Kaden Grayer, Bobby Balthis, Arnold Wayne Shipley, Bobby Hudson, Johnny Weaver, Dwight King, Jerry Dempsey and Clifford Hall.
The family would like to thank Jerry Dempsey and Teresa Musick for their friendship, care and kindness shown to our father over the years. The family would also like to thank all the staff at Hillview, especially Jennifer, Kim, Teresa, Savannah, Gayle, Liz, Jessica, Danielle, Toby, Eric, Bambi and Katherine. Thank you for the love, care, kindness and respect you showed our father in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, Bill requested donations be made to New Bethel Cemetery in c/o Carolyn King, 1291 N Pickens Bridge Road Piney Flats, Tennessee 37686.
