JOHNSON CITY - James Elijah Montgomery, age 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late William McKinley and Grace Peters Montgomery and was born on December 22, 1939, in Johnson City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters and his former wife, Angelyn Cross. James was a lovely man. He liked to stay to himself and was a wonderful neighbor. He was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. Those left to cherish his many memories include his sister-in-law, Carolyn Carpenter Montgomery of Louisiana; a niece, Melody June Montgomery; nephews, Tony Forrest and Roger Frazier; great-nephews, Grant Mitchell Oglesby and Drew Montgomery Oglesby; his friend and caregiver, Riley Clendenson of Johnson City; several other nieces, nephews and other extended family. The celebration of life service for James Elijah Montgomery will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Randy English officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 -1:00 PM prior to the service in the chapel. James will be buried at Happy Valley Memorial Park following the service.
