J. R. Long

April 5, 2025

SHADY VALLEY - J.R. Long, age 84, of Shady Valley, TN, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2025 at his home. J. R. was born on August 11, 1940 in Shady Valley to the late Ira Long and Mary McQueen Long.

J.R. was a 1958 graduate of Johnson County High School. He enjoyed throughout the years deer hunting, farming, hunting arrowheads and was a 1st degree black belt in karate. J.R. loved life to the fullest, especially his fast cars and drag racing. He worked at Kennametal in Johnson City for 42 years as a CNC machine operator and then was a supervisor. J.R. was a member of Sutherland Community Church and served as one of the leadership members.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pat Stout Long, son, Jeffrey R. Stout and wife Jan, grandson, Jared G. Stout and special family friends Terry & Karen Anderson, special neighbors, Robbie & Diane and friend Terry Dunn.

Graveside service for J.R. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens (Gentry Cemetery) with Pastor Bill Christian officiating. Pallbearers will be family & friends.

Memorials may be made to the charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
