Hubert "Hugh" L. Barker

ERWIN - Hubert "Hugh" L. Barker, age 86, of Erwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus on Monday, November 10, 2025, while he was surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born in Peoria, Illinois to the late Hubert E. Barker and Elsie Newell Barker. Hugh moved to Erwin in 1968 where he spent the rest of his life.
He was a United States Navy Veteran having served his country honorably. Hugh was awarded a Good Conduct Medal. He graduated from ETSU where he earned his BS Degree in Business.
Hugh retired from NFS after twenty-three and a half years of service. He was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years. Hugh served as a Deacon, he was a member of the choir, and he taught Sunday School.
He enjoyed fishing and playing the Trombone. Hugh was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Bobby" Barker.
Hugh leaves behind to cherish many precious memories, his loving and devoted wife of sixty-four years, Peggy Keplinger Barker; three daughters: Lori Sparks (Kevin) of Knoxville, Donna Engle (Curtis), and Tina Roark (Sheldon), all of Erwin; four grandchildren: Alicia Smith (Hunter), Chelsea Chrisp (Neil), Andrea Bowman (Andrew), and Andrew Sparks; six great grandchildren: Lucas and Lily Smith, Emory and Nolan Chrisp, Ariana and Archer "A.J." Bowman; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mr. Barker's graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Curtis Engle will officiate. Music will be provided by Alicia Smith. Family will serve as pallbearers. A formal visitation period will not be held however, the family welcomes visitors at their residence.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Mr. Barker to: Calvary Baptist Church, Children's Playground Fund, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, TN 37650.
