JOHNSON CITY - Harvey Clifford Reed, age 73, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, a son of the late Clifford Reed and Bessie Bacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger Dale Reed, Sr., and Russell D. "Rusty" Reed; mother-in-law, Mary Lillian Lowry; and one brother-in-law, Toy Lowry.
"Big" Harvey was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life Renzie Lil Lowry on May 6, 1972. He had worked as Chief Environmental Management at the Mountain Home Medical Center. He was an avid golfer which he was very passionate about and enjoyed playing with his numerous golf friends. He loved spending time with his family on the boat at the lake fishing and cooking wonderful meals for them. He loved playing poker and enjoyed gambling. Harvey loved sports, was an avid University of Tennessee fan, and loved playing softball which he did for many years in the Johnson City Softball League. He will always be remembered as a hard worker and there was nothing he couldn't fix.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Renzie "Lil" Reed; one daughter, Lillian Michelle Reed; one son, Little Harvey Reed; one grandson, Elijah Reed (Tranquility); one great granddaughter, Aurora Reed; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Reed and Mailee Reed; one brother-in-law (who was like a brother to him) and sister-in-law, Marty and Karen Lowry; a very special niece, Rachel Lowry (Brian); his cat, Stormy who he adored; and several other nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
The family wishes to Celebrate the Life of Harvey on his birthday with receiving of friends Monday, September 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 PM. The family request everyone dress casual or in New York Yankees or University of Tennessee attire.
