Gurnie McKee Obituary

Gurnie Daniel McKee

January 30, 1948 -

October 9, 2025

Danny was the son of the late Everett Mac McKee and Bessie Whitaker McKee of Piney Flats, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, siblings who have gone before him are his sister, Martha Morris, brothers, Johnnie McKee and David McKee all of Piney Flats. Some of those left behind are his wife, Trillis McKee, son, Adam McKee, sister, Nancy Peterson and brother, Robert McKee. In addition, he leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He attended Mary Hughes School and then soon began his 43-year career at Summers Hardware in Johnson City. He worked on every floor and in the warehouse at Summers. He was knowledgeable of merchandise Summers carried and was able to quickly fill orders. Years ago, Danny was a dedicated member of Summers' softball team and played in every game. He made many friends with coworkers through the years and knew countless Summers Hardware customers.

Much of his life was spent raising and harvesting crops. During his youth, Danny worked on the family farm and also helped with harvests on neighboring farms. Previously he always cultivated a large garden. He enjoyed mowing and always kept an immaculate yard wherever he lived. Loving all sports, he was an especially avid baseball fan. He knew all the players' names, knew their history, kept up with all the scores and could recite them upon request. He loved NASCAR, and Dale Earnhardt was his favorite driver. He could instantly recall any number or groups of numbers he viewed only once. Word and number puzzles were a favorite activity, and he could finish even the largest, most difficult jigsaw puzzle in a short time.

Danny's innermost beliefs and convictions were personal to him. In 1975 he was baptized into the Family of God at Community Baptist Church in Jonesborough. It was his greatest joy to walk on the beach where he found peace, comfort and closeness to our Heavenly Father.

Respecting Danny's wishes, there will be no public services or receptions. Remember him when you attend a ball game, take a walk in the quiet woods or while walking on the beach early in the morning as the sun is rising.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 "And to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one."
