Gordon W. Walters

Gordon W. Walters, a proud Vietnam veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away February 19th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.

The son of the late Hugh Darril Walters and Daisy Lee Livingston Walters. Gordon was born in May of 1949, grew up in Jonesborough, Tennessee and graduated from Jonesborough High School. At the age of 18, Gordon enlisted in the Marine Corps. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sergeant while serving 6 years on active duty. He was very proud of his service and this great nation. Gordon was a true patriot. He was an active member of Fountain of Life Bible Church for over 25 years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Donna Walters Archer.

Gordon is survived by his son and best friend, Darril Walters (Nickie), daughter Elizabeth Walters Davis (Scott), Sister Sharon Walters Bower (Randy), Brother Denny Walters (Amy), Brother-in-law Larry Archer, Granddaughter's Grace Walters (Tay Johnson), Ellie Walters and Lillie Walters, Grandson Holden Davis, Great-granddaughter Indie Johnson and several nieces and nephews. His loved ones will remember his unique personality and his love for his family. When his health allowed, you would see him helping his family, spending time with them and watching his grandchildren's activities. He was the epitome of a family man! His family was his life and that kept him going for many years.

Funeral service for Gordon will be conducted at 6:00 PM Sunday, February 23, 2025 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with his brother-in-law, Rev. Randy Bower officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the service hour.

A graveside commitment service with Military Honors and officiated by his pastor, Dr. Vic Young, will be held at the Mountain Home National Cemetery (old section) February 24th at 1:00pm. For those attending you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of VA mountain home hospital for their exceptional care.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please donate to the Shriner's Children Hospital, 950 W. Farris Road, Greeneville, SC 29605.
