UNICOI - Gertrude Whitson Street, age 107, Unicoi, went to her heavenly home on Monday, October 09, 2023. She was born on September 16, 1916, in Mitchell County, North Carolina to the late Jeff and Dona Peterson Whitson. Mrs. Street moved to East Tennessee in 1948 where she lived for the rest of her life.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her home and family. Mrs. Street liked tending her garden, cooking, and quilting. She loved her family and treasured spending time with them. Mrs. Street was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of Daughter's of the American Revolution.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dowd Street in 1984; her son, Jeff Street in 2000; three brothers: Monroe Whitson, Fred Whitson, and J.D. Whitson; three sisters: Anna Neal, Daisy Hoilman and Pat Palardy.
She leaves behind to cherish many wonderful memories, her daughter, Shirley Wilson (Ford) of Unicoi; three grandchildren: Robyn Street Phillips (Jeff) of Johnson City, Ron Wilson (Sherri) and Gina Clark (Greg) all of Unicoi; seven great grandchildren: Madison Phillips, Morgan Vollmer (Joseph), Austin Wilson (Alexis), Garrett Clark (Kelsey), Grace Ann Clark, Max Bacon (Ramona) and Lauren Bacon; three great-great grandchildren: Colton Wilson Clark, Mila Bacon and Ezlynn Bacon; special caregiver, Brenda Stout; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Unicoi Funeral Home. Pastor Garry Edwards and Pastor David Crutchfield will officiate the 2:00 p.m. funeral service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Ron Wilson, Greg Clark, Jeff Phillips, Austin Wilson, Garrett Clark, and Walter Burkett.
The family greatly appreciates the staff at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County and Unicoi County Hospital for the excellent care given to Mrs. Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Mrs. Street to: Calvary Baptist Church, 540 Adams Street, Erwin, Tennessee 37650.
