Frank "Jack" Bolus

JOHNSON CITY - Frank "Jack" Bolus, 90, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord and joined his wife Lorraine in Heaven, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Frank was a Johnson City native and a son of the late William Jack and Pauline Tucker Bolus.

Frank attended Science Hill High School until joining the U.S. Navy, where he served during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the Navy, Frank attended East Tennessee State College on his G.I. Bill, graduating in 1960 with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Arts. Upon his graduation, Frank took a job at South High School in Knoxville, teaching Industrial Arts for a year before beginning his career as an Air Traffic Controller with the F.A.A., where he worked until his retirement in 1989, with thirty years of civil service. Frank and Lorraine then moved to Mooresville, Indiana to be closer to their grandchildren, where he returned to teaching Industrial Arts for ten years. They then returned to Johnson City, at which time he went to work with the Washington County Sheriffs Department for several years. Frank also served on the Washington County Commission for two terms from 2004-2010, where he served on the Education and CIA Committees.

Frank was an active church member throughout his entire life, most recently attending Boones Creek Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Lorraine Payne Bolus, in 2009, two brothers, William Glen Bolus and John R. Bolus.

He is survived by two sons, William Jack Bolus and wife Kelly, Johnson City, and Philip Wayne Bolus, Johnson City; five grandchildren, Nicole Garland and husband Kenneth, Gray, Candice Bolus Hendricks and husband Chris, Jonesborough, Jack Bolus, Columbus, GA, Carly Bolus, Johnson City, Claire Bolus, Knoxville; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Ava and Aidan Garland, Gray; one brother, Michael "Mickey" Bolus and wife Betty, Rock Hill, SC; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted Monday, June 30, 2025, at 12:30 P.M., from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Mr. David Clark, Minister, and Dr. Michael "Mickey" Bolus, officiating.

Committal service and interment will follow at 2:00 P.M.in the Historic Site of Mountain Home National Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by members of the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team and Veterans Honor Guard of the Tri-Cities.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. -12:30 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.

In-lieu-of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Frank to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Frank & Lorraine were our neighbors on Greenfield Dr when we lived there...he & I would solve the world´s problems on a given Saturday morning in the summertime. He was warm, friendly, & caring person! He was a family man & loved them dearly! I treasure the short period of time they lived there.

My Uncle Jack I remember was always smiling and laughing. He had a very loving heart and always kept close ties with family and relatives His smile and laugh will be be sadly missed. I loved my Uncle Jack!
