ERWIN - Elizabeth Charles Franklin, 94, of Erwin, was received into the arms of her beloved Saviour on November 9, 2023 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Elizabeth was born in Athens, TN on July 18, 1929 to Magalee (Harr) and J. O. Charles. Her family moved to Erwin, where she attended Love Street School and graduated from Erwin High School. While attending East Tennessee State College, she married the love of her life, Dick Franklin, in 1950 at Centenary Methodist Church.
Elizabeth had a long career as a secretary and office worker. Her employers included Centenary Methodist, the medical clinic of Monroe, Dees, and Hyder, county and state welfare offices, the Social Security Administration, and the IRS. Her last position was with the Town of Erwin. She was an accomplished seamstress. She loved working in her flower garden and traveling with her husband.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband and by two sisters, Wilma Jean Lisvoski and Teresa Ritchie. Survivors include a sister, Nancy Rawl (Bill) of Houston, TX, a brother, Jerry Charles (Peggy) of Columbia, SC, her daughter Rebecca Franklin (Wallace Ashe Jr.) of Knoxville, her son Wade Franklin of Erwin, and many nieces and nephews who all loved their Aunt Liz.
In accordance with Elizabeth's wishes, there will be no public service. Her cremains will be interred beside her beloved husband at Mountain Home National Cemetery in a small private ceremony. Memorials may be made to Centenary Methodist Church, 203 N. Elm Avenue, Erwin, or to any appropriate organization.
The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to her church family at Centenary for many years of loving support; her caregivers from Home Instead Senior Services; and the staff of Christian Care of Unicoi County where she resided during her final months.

Rest in Peace my sweet, gentle, thoughtful, kind and beautiful Aunt Liz. You were without question an angel among us here on earth, and I will always hold close to my heart the memories I have of you. I am honored to share your name, and while my heart hurt the day you were called home, I now share my birthday with you...your birthday in your eternal heavenly home. I know your reunion with "Aunt" Dick, Aunt Terry and Aunt Jean and all your family members was Joyful!
I love you.
