BLUFF CITY - Elaine Williams Proffitt, age 85, of Bluff City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2025, from the Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton. Elaine was born on July 22, 1940, a daughter of the late Agee and Faye Stella Sapp Williams. In addition to her parents, Elaine was also preceded in death by her husband, Estel Lawrence Proffitt; her stepmother, Emma Williams; two stepbrothers, Howard Bowers and Eugene Bowers; and a stepsister, Thelma Goforth.

Elaine was a graduate of ETSU with a bachelor's degree in education. While attending ETSU, Elaine played in the marching band. She retired as a school teacher for the Washington County School System. Elaine enjoyed good conversation and never met a stranger. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish Elaine's memory include her sons, Robert (Amy) Proffitt of Bluff City and Mark (Gay) Proffitt of Piney Flats; her grandchildren, Matthew (Lenzie) Proffitt, Garrett Proffitt and Emily Proffitt; and two great grandchildren, Winnie Proffitt and Luella Proffitt.

A graveside service to celebrate Elaine's life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chad Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton prior to the graveside service on Monday. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Elaine's special friends, Sherry Miller and Katie Buchanan for their love and support.
