Dorothy Jaynes Obituary

Dorothy K (Estepp) Jaynes December 26, 1934 - August 21, 2024

On August 21, 2024, the Lord Jesus called Dorothy K. (Estepp) Jaynes home to Heaven to be with Him, liberating her from a broken body racked with pain. Dorothy was born on December 26, 1934 to Arnold Benjamin Estepp and Ada Evelyn (Miller) Estepp, of Limestone, Tennessee.

Dorothy lived an exemplary life of leadership, Christianity, and service. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, which was the best decision of her life. She graduated from Washington College Academy valedictorian of her class, and went on to marry T.J. Ervin, raising four wonderful children while working in, and ultimately managing, Estepp Slaughter. Dorothy was active in several Church of God congregations, teaching Sunday School and serving on various boards and committees. Dorothy served her parents through tragic and extended illnesses, selflessly giving up thirteen years of her life in the process. She considered motherhood her most important role in life and was completely devoted to her four children.

Dorothy loved the Lord, and all that He created. She loved flowers (both tame and wild), gardening, canning, wildlife, and fall colors. She loved to study the Bible and share Jesus with anyone she could. She loved organization and accomplished that by creating extensive lists and keeping everything in its place. Dorothy loved to travel, especially to Alaska and Hawaii. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and extended family. She was known as "Grandmama" to the entire family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Ada Estepp, infant brother Clarence Estepp, husbands T.J. Ervin, Avery "Smokey" Ensley, and Joe Jaynes. She is survived by her children and their spouses Kathy (Mike) May, Jeana (Don) McGregor, Anita (Eric) Miller, and Thomas (Karen) Ervin, as well as eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The family would like to express our profound appreciation for the outstanding care that Dorothy received from her care team network to improve her quality of life. We are very grateful for Drs. Williams and Falasca at SOFHA, the Johnson City Medical Center, National Health Care, Providence Companion Care, All Ways Caring HomeCare, the Johnson City Pain Clinic, Tusculum Dental Care, Morganstern Chiropractic Clinic, and Amedisys Home Health and Hospice.

Friends may pay their condolences at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home (Highway, 11-E, Jonesborough, Tn) on Saturday, August 31st by greeting the family from 12:00, noon to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service in the chapel starting at 2:00 p.m. The interment will be a private family ceremony.
