PINEY FLATS - Donald "Don" McCarty, 71, of Piney Flats, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, in the NHC HealthCare, Johnson City.
Don was a native of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Rufus and Christina Haun McCarty.
Don graduated from Jonesboro High School. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served for twenty-one and a half years. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked with the civil service for twelve years.
Don was an avid Tennessee Vols fan "Go Vols." He enjoyed watching SEC sports, especially Tennessee. Don also enjoyed bowling, line dancing and spending time with his family.
Don was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Robert McElyea.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-one years, Merlita McCarty; two sisters, Nancy McCarty and Kathy McElyea and her fiancé Brian; one daughter, Danelle Trahan and her husband Fabian; two granddaughters, Cortney Renova and her husband Humberto and Chelsea Poling and her husband Ryan; five great-grandchildren, Miguel, Miya, Kyler, Madilyn and Emma.
The family of Donald "Don" McCarty will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Roy Lowe officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 am Friday, in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be the men of Southside Baptist Church. Family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am Friday.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Southside Baptist Church, 1928 Wheeler Street, Johnson City Tn 37604.
