April 4, 2025

KNOXVILLE - Deborah (Debbie) Joy Daugherty, age 69, passed away unexpectedly in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 4th. She was born in Johnson City, Tennessee and grew up in the Colonial Heights area of Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her parents: Richard and Dorothy Daugherty. She is survived by one sister Sandy Daugherty Lauderback (Eddie) and three nephews, Will Lauderback (Christina), Wes Lauderback (Angela) and Jay Lauderback and great nephews and niece: Brayden, Avery, Jackson, Luke, Beau and Grayson.

Debbie was a 1973 graduate of Sullivan Central High School. She had attended ETSU and Tennessee Tech University and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Knoxville. While at UT, she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She worked for Knox County John Tarleton Home for Children for many years and was later employed by the State of Tennessee with the Department of Children Services/Foster Care System retiring in 2017.

Deborah had a love of music and a beautiful voice, being chosen for several choral groups while in high school. She was an accomplished pianist, but her worsening eyesight had diminished her ability to play the piano. She was a kind and gentle soul with a wonderful smile. Her silent compassion will be missed by her family. She believed that you should live your life faithfully and strive to be a disciple for Christ.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to your local Isaiah 117 House or a charity of your choice.

Dear Ms. Sandy Daugherty,
I'm a former coworker with Department of Children's services. Deborah was a great woman with a caring heart. She often made me and others laugh, she was well versed in several areas. We were also roommates when TSEA -Tennessee State Employees traveled out of county for Lobby Day and Representative Assembly. She will be missed by many. My prayer is that GOD gives you daily doses of his grace and strength.
