Dr. David Anthony Ray

JOHNSON CITY - Dr. David Anthony Ray, age 85, of Johnson City, TN passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Nashville, TN and was a son of the late Phillip Ray and Venera Ray.

At five years old, David went to live in Panama City where his father and grandfather helped build the Panama Canal. He lived in Detroit and then Mississippi before moving to Bristol, TN between the ages of 12 and 18 years old.

David went to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and continued his education at University of Memphis Dental School. After graduation he joined the Army and became an Army Dentist Captain. During his time in Okinawa, while in the Army, he learned Oral Surgery.

David had a private dental practice in Gatlinburg, TN and Knoxville, TN. He was known as one of the best dentists and perfectionists by his patients and patronage. He was greatly appreciated for all his hard work and accomplishments. He was also known as the singing dentist along with his fellow dentist Dr. Bill Rogers.

After 53 years, David retired and moved to Johnson City, TN.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Maria Kalogeros; three children, Jamie, Jeri (Joshua), and Josh Phillip; grandchildren, Parker, Madison and Havana; sister, Sylivia and husband Jim, who was also Davids best friend and nieces, Jill and Julie.

The committal service will be held Friday, February 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in the Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, TN. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m.
