David Coleman Obituary

David Dyer Coleman

April 4, 2025

On Thursday, April 4, 2025, Heaven gained a treasure in David Dyer Coleman, aged 67.

David was a native and lifelong resident of the Tri Cities, where he brought joy, smiles, and laughter to everyone he met. He was beloved by his parents, the late William Edward and Eleanor Jean Mottern Coleman, from the moment he was born.

David was known for many things – his positive outlook, love for music, movies, and dancing, contagious smile, work ethic, cross word puzzles, and air guitar. In addition, he had an amazing memory! David memorized and documented all sorts of dates and facts, but he was particularly fond of remembering birthdays. His family enjoyed quizzing him, and he could always produce the birthdate (including year) of any named actor, friend, or family member.

David was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, where he often enjoyed playing his guitar with the choir. He was a proud member of Dawn of Hope's Human Rights and Advocacy Committee's, and the Unicoi County Library.

David loved his work at the Texas Roadhouse. In 2017 he stole the show in Knoxville on the dance floor for a Regional line dancing competition with his co-workers where he played the fiddle and showed off his signature moves. His favorite was the robot!

David's was a life fully lived. Those who knew him best longed to see the world the way he did. He was the kind of person who made an impact, lit up a room, and left a lasting impression.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved nephew, Chris Coleman, and his dear sister-in-law, Ann Coleman.

David is survived by three brothers, Bill Coleman and wife Nancy of St. Thomas, Ontario, Michael Coleman of Dallas, Texas, and Robert Coleman and wife Carolyn of Johnson City; eight nieces and nephews, Stefanie Coleman, Kimberley Gordon, and Bill Coleman, III, all of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada, Teri Coleman, Dallas, TX, Erin Kile, San Diego, CA, Jeff Coleman, Roanoke, VA, Shannon Thomsen, Johnson City, and Adam Coleman, Asheville, NC; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his Dawn of Hope family.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Dawn of Hope, especially Shannon Haney, for the many years of love and care given to David. It meant the world to David's family that he not only had his needs met but was truly loved by his friends, nurses, and all of the staff there at Dawn of Hope.

The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 1:00pm from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Jim Pollock and Bill Coleman officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday prior to the service, from 11am-1pm in the East Parlor of the Funeral Home.

The graveside committal service will be held Monday, April 14, 2025, at 12pm in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those planning to attend are to meet at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dawn of Hope, 500 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, TN, 37601.

Robert so sad to hear about David's passing. He was so much fun to be around. He always had a laugh that brought joy to the entire room. I know that he loved you very much. Out of all the service recipients that I had the pleasure of working with David always comes to mind. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by his family

My most vivid memory of David was in 1965 when we moved across the street from the Colemans. His Mom and he came over to meet my Mother and me. I was introduced and David started singing Mrs. Brown you have a Lovely Daughter !!
He was truly a treasure
