Cleta Mae Grindstaff Kyte

October 20, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Cleta Mae Grindstaff Kyte, 95, Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord, Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Abundant Christian Living Community, Johnson City. She was born January 31, 1930 in Elizabethton to the late Alf & Etta Pierce Grindstaff. She was a graduate of Unaka High School. In earlier years she was employed at Elizabethton Steam Laundry. She loved people, sew, cook for her family and cook for homeless people. She was active in her church, Shenandoah Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James S. Kyte, Three Brothers: Glen, Art and Howard Grindstaff and three sisters: Chystale Hicks, Ruby Hicks and Darlene Hampton.

Survivors include One Daughter & Son-In-Law: Jamie Kyte & Jim Carr. One Granddaughter: Olivia Carr. One Sister: Pat Guinn and One Brother: Dean Grindstff. Several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor David Light officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be selected from Nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you for the excellent care the Nurses and Staff of Abundant Christian Loving Community she received during her stay there.
