Clara Sartain Obituary

Clara "Jean" Sartain

January 29, 1934 -

April 14, 2026

PINEY FLATS - Clara "Jean" Sartain, 92, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, passed peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Jean was born on January 29, 1934, to the late Johnny and Velma Adams. She graduated from Boones Creek High School in 1952 and, the following year, married the love of her life, Floyd Sartain, on June 21, 1953. Their time together began with sacrifice and devotion, as Floyd was deployed to Germany during the Korean Conflict just nine days after their wedding. After two years apart, he returned home, and together they built a life and a home in Piney Flats, where they lovingly raised their two daughters.

Jean devoted over 40 years of her life to caring for others, operating a daycare from her home where she nurtured and impacted generations of children. She had a deep love for animals and found great joy in feeding and watching wildlife. Her favorite companion was her beloved Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Sadie.

A gifted cook and baker, Jean's kitchen was the heart of her home. Family and friends eagerly anticipated her meals, and she was especially known for her delicious coconut cake. She loved flowers and she was an avid flower gardener. She was a member of Austin Springs Methodist Church in Johnson City and she attended services at Edgefield Methodist Church in Piney Flats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Floyd Sartain; her brothers, Anthony Brown and Willie Adams; her sister, Melody Hicks; and a sister-in-law, JoAnn Adams.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Deborah (Joe) Stitt and Kim (Dean) Baggett; her grandchildren, Adam (Amber) Stitt and Tyler (Mimi) Stitt; her great-grandchildren, Grant, Gaines, and Dawson, with a fourth great-grandchild expected in November; her brothers, Joe Adams, Johnny Adams, and Gary "Clinton" Brown; her sister, Penny Black; and her sister-in-law, Wendy Adams.

Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her generous heart, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and care.

There will be a graveside service at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Edgefield Cemetery, under the direction of Pastor Estel Williams. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to all of the staff at NHC Healthcare for their special care and dedication to Jean and her family.

Memorial contributions are directed to Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter.
