JOHNSON CITY - Charlsie Jean Garland, 89, of Johnson City, TN passed away Thursday January 4, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was Born May 21, 1934, to the late John & Elva Ayers in Green Mountain, NC. She was a founding mother of the House of Prayer Church in Johnson City, TN, where she was a member. Her passion was singing gospel songs, which she was great at, as she spent her life as a devoted Christian. Spreading her love for Christ was her daily work, as for over sixty years she was a minister's wife of the late Rev Cecil Garland. John 3:16 & Isaiah 40:31 was her favorite scripture.
Charlsie was known to most as Mrs. Garland. People loved and respected her giving soul. To say she was an excellent cook was an understatement. She was known for wanting to feed any and everyone who stopped for a visit.
She was a big supporter of missionaries, animal nonprofits, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Her life's work was spreading Christ's love and helping others till her days end.
Survivors Include her sons, Larry Garland and his wife Diana Garland of Piney Flats, TN and
Johnny Garland and his girlfriend Becky Kane of Boones Creek, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson and her husband David Johnson of Piney Flats, TN, Kimberly Garland and her fiancé Jason Adams of Watauga, TN, Mikell Garland of Johnson City, TN and Dewey Garland; great grandchild, Paisley Ledford of Watauga, TN; sister, Lois Ann Kyker and her husband Dickie Kyker of Telford, TN; sister- in- law, Velma Ayers of Jonesborough, TN; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Patsy Gray and Mary Ann Hilton.
In addition to her parents Charlsie was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Cecil Garland; siblings, Faye Ledford, James Ayers, Wayne Ayers, and Richard Ayers; special niece, Naomi Harrell.
The family of Charlsie Jean Garland will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Rev. Charlie McCamey officiating. The graveside committal service will be held at 11 am Thursday in the St. Paul Church Cemetery, 1665 Allison Road, Piney Flats. Active pallbearers will be David Johnson, Jason Adams, Curtis Higgins, Ronnie Mac Scalf, Johnny Hilton, and Kevin Burchfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Wilcox, Bob Campbell, and Dickie Kyker. The minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 am Thursday.
