Bobby Eugene Stevens passed peacefully on June 17, 2023, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Bobby was born in Johnson City, Tennessee. Shortly after graduating from Jonesboro High School, he Joined the Air Force. This allowed him the privilege to travel to many amazing places including spending several years in Spain. He spoke fluent Spanish and used that skill for many years. After the military, Bobby worked for over 40 years with the United States Postal Service before his retirement.
From his days in high school until his death, Bobby was an avid fan of rock & roll music. Elvis was his biggest idol, and he could do impersonations of the King that included his guitar and made young girls swoon at school. Bobby owned the very first pair of Blue Suede Shoes in Johnson City. He performed on several local television programs like J. Norton Arnie, Bonnie Lou and Buster, and others. When the mood hit, he could still perform in his later years.
Bobby is proceeded in death by his wife, Mary; son Mark Schaffer; his beloved parents, Sarah and Roy Stevens; his brothers, Lewis (Bud), Lawrence (Chuck), Jerry, and James (Bo, Truck); and his sisters, Katherine, Mary Ellen, and Patricia (Patsy). As well as many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by Penny (Bates) Merritt, the love of his life, high school sweetheart, and precious care giver, along with the class of 1959 alumni that meet once a month for dinner.
Bobby is also survived by his sons, Michael Stevens, Gary, and Scott Schaffer; several grandchildren, (two very special) Erin and Matthew Stevens; brothers, John, Chip (Sarah), and David (Teresa); his sisters, Mary Ann, Nancy (James), Beverly, Sharon (Kathy), and Judy; and many, many nieces, and nephews.
A special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Life Care Center of Gray for their kindness and care.
