Bobby Snyder Obituary

MINT HILL, NC - Bobby Lynn Snyder, Sr., a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2023. Born in Jonesboro, Tennessee on March 24, 1937, Bobby was a shining example of faith, love, and dedication to his family and community. His passing in Mint Hill, North Carolina leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bobby was the son of the late Dallas Eugene Snyder and Berdie Ivalee Johnson Snyder. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June Chambers Snyder, of 57 years, and his brother James Eugene Snyder. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Jane Snyder Austin and her husband, Jennings Austin of Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Blessed with a loving family, Bobby is survived by his three children, Bobby Lynn Snyder Jr. and his wife, Natalie Gray Snyder of Mooresville, NC, Lance Kevin Snyder and his wife, Michelle Funderburk Snyder of Indian Trail, NC, and Summar Shea Snyder Simpson and her husband, Bobby James Simpson of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Bobby was the proud grandfather of Brittney Snyder, Austin Snyder & his fiancé Taylor Casaburo, Madison Snyder Gilbert and her husband Jason Gilbert, Dillon Snyder and his wife Lauren Blessing Snyder, Shea Snyder & her fiancé Dalton Haywood, Isabella Simpson, and Isaiah Lee. His great-grandchildren, Palmer Ferrell, Bryer Gilbert, and Nash Gilbert, brought him immense joy and pride.

Bobby's love for the Lord was evident in all aspects of his life, as he was an active and devoted member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He found great joy in teaching his Sunday school class for 55 years and sharing his knowledge and wisdom with the younger generations. Many of those years he and his precious wife June led these classes together. He served the Lord as a deacon at Oak Grove for many years following in the footsteps of his beloved father who also served in this role. His friendly nature and genuine concern for others touched the lives of many, and his strong faith in the Lord served as an inspiration to all who knew him.

In addition to his passion for teaching and serving the Lord, Bobby's love for sports – particularly basketball – was undeniable. He was an accomplished athlete in his younger years and continued to share his enthusiasm for the game as a coach and mentor to many aspiring players. He coached high school boys' basketball for 45 years which included 11 years at Boones Creek High School and 34 years at Daniel Boone High School. His dedication to the sport not only brought joy and success to those he coached but also fostered a sense of teamwork, camaraderie, and sportsmanship that will be remembered by all who had the privilege of playing under his guidance.

Bobby was humbly inducted into the East Tennessee State University Sports Hall of Fame, Daniel Boone High School Sports Hall of Fame, Upper East Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and the TSSAA Sports Hall of Fame.

A graduate of Boones Creek High School, Bobby went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education from East Tennessee State University. Bobby's loving, faith-filled, and friendly nature touched the lives of countless individuals. He was a man who walked in the footsteps of Jesus, spreading love and kindness wherever he went. His dedication to his family, his faith, and his community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Coach Snyder was my friend and high school basket ball coach at Daniel Boone--Coach expected nothing but the best not just at game time but also at being the best person you could be off the court--I think of him often wearing his maroon blazer courtside during big home games with the gym full playing Science Hill,Happy Valley or Crockett. Its getting harder to find men like Coach Snyder because they are all in Heaven!
