Betty Scott Obituary

Betty Jane Carter Scott

October 14, 1931 -

January 12, 2026

JOHNSON CITY - Betty Jane Carter Scott, 94, of Johnson City, a devoted wife and mother, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with the love of her life, John, early Monday morning, January 12, 2026, following a sudden health decline.

Betty was born in Johnson City, on October 14, 1931. She attended Midway School and Science Hill High School. She attended Central Baptist Church on a Sunday night with her mom and sister where she met her sweetheart. They were married by William R. Rigill on June 21, 1952.

Betty worked as a cook at Liggett's Drug Store, Ross Restaurant, ETSU cafeteria, and Shoney's. She enjoyed farming, gardening, and working in her beautiful flower beds. Betty also enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and crocheting blankets and afghans. Betty and John loved to go dancing to bluegrass music every weekend. Most of all, she had a heart of gold for her family, raising not four, but five daughters. She always included raising her granddaughter, Ashley. Betty was a faithful member at Union Church of Christ.

Married for over fifty-nine years, John E. Scott preceded Betty in death. She is also preceded by her parents, Bernie Lynn Carter and Minnie Hazel (Snyder) Carter as well as her brother, Danny Lee Carter; two sisters, June Elaine (Carter) Patterson and Martha Jewel (Carter) Hankel; two grandchildren, Whitney Brooke Horne and Brandon Scott Horne.

Survivors include five daughters, Rosia Scott of Johnson City, Alethea Scott Horne (Danny) of Kingsport, Bonita Scott of Chuckey, Hazel Scott Gray (Danny) of Erwin, Ashley Scott Curtis (Danny) of Johnson City; grandson, Garrett Horne, Kingsport, as well as great-grandson and the joy of her final days, Arron Russell Curtis.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 S. Roan Street, Johnson City, TN, with Pastor Lamar Garrison officiating. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

Memories and condolences may be shared at www.appfh.net.

The obituary is lovingly written by the Scott family.
