BRISTOL, TN - Betty Lou Brewer, 80 of Bristol, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 16, 2025 at her residence with her family by her side. She was a native of Bristol and was a daughter of the late James and Nellie Vanover Hilliard. Betty loved singing in the church, flowers, her dogs Lucy and Suzy Q and was a mother to any and all children she met. She attended Friendship Freewill Baptist Church in Bristol.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Arvil Brewer in 2002; three brothers, Junior Hilliard, Jimmy Hilliard and Donnie Hilliard; four sisters, Shirley Hilliard, Laura Nunn, Mary Watkins and Ruby Wilson.
Survivors include her children, Fred Brewer Jr. of Bristol, Jason Brewer (Kristi) of Fall Branch, Robbie Brewer (Sherri) of Limestone and Linda Davis and husband, Rev. Steve Davis of Limestone; a brother, Norman Hilliard and wife, Alice of Bluff City; a sister, Barbara Leonard of Bristol; special grandson and caregiver, Chris Davis; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; also many friends, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Betty will be conducted at 8:00 PM Monday, October 20, 2025 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga avenue, Johnson City with Rev. Jerry Scalf and Rev. Tony Woods officiating. The Norton family will provide special music. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until the service hour. Other times at Betty's home. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Rainbow Cemetery, 510 Claude Warren Road, Mountain City, TN 37683 with Rev. Steve Davis assisting Pallbearers will be David Barnette, Chris Davis, Nathaniel Brewer, Waylon Coomer, Jesse Brewer, Jody Hilliard, Jeff Scott and Michael Reece. Cole Brewer and Stetson Brewer will serve as an honorary pallbearers. For those attending this service you are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 PM.
In lieu of lowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Rainbow Cemetery, Mountain City.
