Barbara Lane Obituary

Barbara Bowman Lane

April 27, 1939 -

September 3, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Barbara Bowman Lane, age 86, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center.

A lifelong resident of Johnson City, Barbara was born on April 27, 1939, to the late Hunter and Edna Saylor Bowman. She was a proud graduate of Science Hill High School.

Barbara met the love of her life, Joe Lane, while working at the downtown People's Bank. The two were married on July 20, 1962, and shared 45 wonderful years together until Joe's passing on July 30, 2007.

She had a deep love for her community and was especially fond of her work family at the Johnson City Power Board. Barbara was a devoted member of First Christian Church, where she found joy and fellowship in the Win-A-Kuple class. She also had a passion for gardening and was active in the Shady Oaks Garden Club.

Family gatherings were among Barbara's greatest joys. A talented cook, she loved bringing her family together around the table. She was also a passionate supporter of Tennessee athletics-rarely missing a UT football or basketball game-and especially loved cheering on the Lady Vols.

Barbara was a godly woman who found strength and peace in reading her Bible. She was social by nature and enjoyed staying in touch with her many friends through phone calls and visits.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Bowman Donnelly, and her niece, Shelley Saylor.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jimmy Lane (Kathryn) and Gary Lane (Melinda); sister, Jane Saylor (Lawton); brother, Greg Bowman; nieces, Wendy McCurry (Steve), Jessica Lockner (Eric), Hunter Wines (Jordan), Alex Donnelly (Barbara), and Leanne Black (Ron); as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

She is also survived by dear and special friends Carolyn Holly, Betty Wilkinson, and Alan and Patsy Phipps.

Barbara's warmth, faith, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Monte Vista Memorial Park in a private ceremony.

Jimmy and Gary, I have many wonderful memories of your Mother and Father! Our families worshipped together at East Unaka Church of Christ for many years.
She always reminded me when I saw her that I was your first babysitter. She was a very sweet and caring lady!

Dear Jimmy and Gary and family, I was saddened to learn of your sweet Mother's passing. Barbara and Joe were always the nicest folks to our family. I remember going to UT football games and shopping at Miller's in Knoxville with Mom and Barbara. Our families shared many special memories at East Unaka Church of Christ. I moved to Louisville, Ky. in 1976 but Mickey, Rusty and Denise still live in Johnson City.
Both of our parents are deceased but you will have precious memories to share for a lifetime of your wonderful loving parents. You will be in our prayers.
Please say a special HELLO to the Phelps for us. Kyleen
