CENTERVILLE, MA - Armand A. Lefemine, MD, of Centerville, died June 22, 2023 at the age of 96. Born and raised in Windsor Locks CT, Dr. Lefemine was a graduate of Holy Cross College and Harvard Medical School. A dedicated physician in thoracic and cardiac surgery, his career began with a fellowship with Dwight Harken, MD at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston. He then partnered in private practice with fellow associate Dr. Henry Low at Hartford Hospital for several years before returning to Boston as Chief of Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. He subsequently moved to Johnson City, TN as Professor and Chairman of the Dept. Surgery at Quillen Medical School and Chief of Surgery and later Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the VA Hospital Johnson City, TN. In 1989 he was appointed Director of Surgery for the Veterans Administration in Washington D.C. Following that he was Chief of Staff at the VA Hospital in Lake City, FL where he then retired to Cape Cod MA with his wife of 70 years, Natalie J. Lefemine, who preceded him in death in 2022. His eldest daughter Linda was deceased in 2015.
He is survived by three children Stephen, David and Carolyn, Son-in-Law Philip, 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was also a Navy Veteran of WWII and Colonel in the Army Reserves.
Armand Lefemine was known for his compassion and dedication to patient care, a relentless desire for academics and a passion for art, music, and collecting stamps and coins.
Visitation will be Thursday June 29, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 AM in the Chapman Funeral & Cremations, John-Lawrence Chapel, 3778 Falmouth Rd. Marstons Mills, MA 02648. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 South Main St. Centerville, MA with burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1:30 PM
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
