Ada Mae Cable

Ada Mae Cable, 87, went to her eternal home to be with her heavenly father on Thursday November 6th, 2025. She was a Christian and a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Ada was a resident of Center on Aging and Health of Erwin. Prior to her current address she was a resident of Watauga square apartments in Johnson City.
Ada was born June 13th, 1938 in Washington County, TN and was the oldest of six daughters of the late Floyd Calvin and Viola Pauline Bailey. Ada was also preceded in death by her former husband, Joe Cable; a son, Ray Cable; two sisters, Lulla Belle Davidge and Norma Jean Jacob; one brother-in-law Jake Jacob.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Calvin Cable of Elizabethton, TN, Diane Bennett (Tony) of Erwin, TN, Dale Cable (Sherri) of Unicoi, TN, Dallas Cable of Elizabethton, TN; four grandchildren, Austin Bennett (Sarah), Wesley Cable (Fiance, Tarrah), Chanda Cable, and Dylan Cable; as well as several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and other family members survive.
Ada was formerly employed by various companies including Magnavox and The Dunbar Pepper Plant. She was also a waitress and a cook at Joe's Restaurant in Unicoi. Most recently, she had worked alongside her boss and best friend, Phyllis Blackburn at Aunt B's restaurant in Johnson City, TN.
While living at Watauga Square, Ada enjoyed many activities such as playing Bingo with other residents and preparing food for pot luck meals gatherings. Ada loved to sing and enjoyed country music, bluegrass, and gospel music. She could remember the words by heart to many of her favorite songs she had learned over the years such as "Grandma got run over by a reindeer" It was her favorite Christmas song. While residing at The Center on Aging and Health, she enjoyed attending the church services led by Pastor Kevin Laws and others singing old familiar hymns.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday November 12th, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Valley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Laws officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the hour of service. A graveside service will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be, Austin Bennett, Wesley Cable, Glen Graves, Doug Bennett, Mark Bennett, and Steve Hahn. Honorary pallbearers will be Dallas Cable, Dale Cable, and Calvin Cable.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Becky and the Amedisys Hospice team for all their love and care for Ada as well as The center on Aging and Health for how wonderful they were over the years. They would also like to thank Phyllis Blackburn for the friendship through the years.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
