Pamela Doukas Obituary

Groton - Pamela Ann (Prentice) Doukas, 71, lost her recent battle with cancer Feb. 27, 2026.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Koster, and her grandson, Sante Gallagher of Waterford and East Lyme; as well as her brother, Richard Prentice of Oakdale; her sister MaryEllen Adams of Ogdensburg, N.Y.; and niece Jen Adams of New York City. "Auntie Di" Darlene Krysiewicz Buckley and Uncle Bill Buckley of Uncasville were very present and supportive in her final months.

Pam lost her beloved husband, Stephen Doukas, this past summer; his daughter Lesley, sister Nicolette, and their large extended family have been very kind and helpful. Pam was also predeceased by her parents, Richard and Shirlee (Krysiewicz) Prentice of Uncasville and Oakdale, in 2014.

Pam was born in Groton Oct. 18, 1954, and largely grew up in Uncasville. As a child, she lived in several Navy postings with her family, and spent two years in Paris, France as young girl.

Pam served as a corpsman in the Navy and met her first husband, Sarah's father, Edward Koster, in Chicago, Ill. After a posting in Galveston, Texas, they settled back in Connecticut at the end of their service. Eddie predeceased her, as did her second husband, Joseph Mugovero.

Following her Navy service, Pam spent 30-plus years working for the U.S. Postal Service, holding positions in New London, Waterford, and East Lyme, as well as acting as a shop steward in Waterford. She met Stephen while working there, and they spent a large part of their married life in Connecticut, though they enjoyed retired life for ten years in Spring Hill, Fla. Pam had many dear friends and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, Mahjong, and especially her sweet little dog, Zoe.

She loved to bake and cook, and her keen eye and very green thumb filled her home with plants and many beautiful things. Upon returning home to Connecticut, she and Stephen settled in Waterford and Groton, taking trips to Ireland and many other stunning destinations, as well as traveling often to see friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

Visiting hours will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 9, with a service immediately following at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street. Donations in her memory may be directed to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation (PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515) Please visit www.byles.com to sign the guest book or share a memory with the family.
