Virginia Carol Burton (Ross) 81, of Chillicothe Ohio passed away from this life on Saturday March 7, at 4:27 p.m. at Adena Hospital. She was born on May 10th, 1944 in Chillicothe to Alice Mae Ross (Biechler) and Earl Ross. She was a 1963 graduate of Chillicothe High School.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clyde Burton Sr. of Chillicothe, her son Clyde Burton Jr., daughter Patricia Burton and a granddaughter Michaela Burton all of Chillicothe. Also surviving are sisters Mrs. Harold (Susan) Caldwell, South Bloomfield, Mrs. Barry (Doris) Ebert, Chillicothe, Mrs. Barry (Lee Ann) Pittenger, Hillsboro and a brother Richard Ross, Chillicothe.

She was predeceased by her mother Alice Mae Ross (Biechler), her father Earl Ross, a brother Earl Ross Jr, a sister Carolyn Hollis, and 2 granddaughters Tikiela C Burton and Cherakee A. Pence. She spent many years working for the Ross County Library and The American Red Cross. She enjoyed reading, quilting, watching the Olympics, a charcoal artist and a weather spotter out of Wilmington, Ohio. She was a fan of Dale Earnheart Sr., a member of a bowling league and softball team, and she even has a deer hanging on the wall with her name on it.

Following the death of two granddaughters, Virginia, her husband Clyde, her sister Doris and with the help of Walmart started "Fire Alarms for Kids." They raised enough money to hand out 3,860 alarms to all the surrounding county elementary schools. They earned the 2001 Hero of the Community award.

She was a member of The Jefferson Avenue Christian Union Church.

She was a loving and giving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Calling hours are Friday March 13, 2026 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Wares Funeral Home of Chillicothe. Funeral service to follow with Pastor Mark Clendaniel officiating. Friends and family will gather at the Jefferson Ave Church after the service.
