Gidget Barras Obituary

Gidget Marie Barras was born April 14, 1972 in Biloxi, MS. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Gidget brought a unique spirit and unwavering strength to all who knew her. She most recently resided in Saucier, MS. A true individual, Gidget had a deep passion for rock music, a love she declared nothing could surpass. Her favorite bands included KC and the Sunshine Band, ACDC, Eagles, KISS, Aerosmith, 38 Special and Queen. Beyond music, she enjoyed playing card games like Rummy and Go-Fish, and found simple joy in hanging clothes out on the line. She was also a fan of classic TV shows like MASH, Golden Girls and The Waltons. Gidget's favorite place in the world was Walmart, and she loved shrimp, though she admitted they often gave her crazy dreams. Gidget Barras passed away peacefully Thursday, March 5, 2026, in Saucier, MS at the age of 53.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jerry Barras and Shelia Barras.

Gidget is survived by her sibling: Jackie (Brian) Cox, and her cherished nieces and nephews: Travis (Candi), Kirsten (Drew), Nolan (Brenna), Anna, Trip, Daisy, Mallory and Knox.

Gidget was known for her wild teenage years, a phase she navigated with a spirited independence that often had her parents, Jerry and Shelia, wondering. Her resilience was truly tested in her 20s when she faced an unimaginable challenge, falling into a coma for months. It was during this time, even in unconsciousness, that she found solace in country music. Upon her recovery, she emerged as the strongest and kindest person many knew, though her heart remained true to her rock music roots.

A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30PM, Monday, March 9, 2026 at Wolf River Cemetery, with a visitation at the cemetery beginning at Noon.

Gidget's vibrant spirit and enduring strength will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
