Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Gudgel) Hundley, 73, of Palmyra, IL passed from this life on Wednesday, March 25, at her home.
She was born in
Springfield, IL on July 17, 1952 the daughter of Eugene F. and Thelma (Wise) Gudgel, Sr.
Miss Gudgel graduated from South Fork High School and married the love of her life Mr. Nelson G. Hundley. Jr. on October 10, 1970 in
Tovey, IL. SSG Nelson Hundley, Jr. preceded Mary in death on June 8, 2024. Mary lived many places early on in her marriage being the wife of a career military man finally settling back into
Tovey, IL. She attended LLCC Springfield where she received her Registered Nurse License. Although she retired from St. Johns Hospital, she worked at Memorial Medical Center for multiple years along with working at Carlinville Rehab and Health Center before fully retiring. Mary was a member of Blooming Grove Christian Church and was baptised on November 10th, 2024 and loved the Lord. She enjoyed working outdoors, fishing in her pond, travelling, shopping and her fur babies. Family was the most important thing to her and she made sure never to leave without a hug and 'I love you'.

Tovey, IL, and a daughter Mary Bost of Litchfield, IL, Grandchildren Gary (wife Sara) Fairbrother of Quincy, IL, Heaven Miller of Taylorville, IL, Lorin Fairbrother of Peoria, IL, Alison Riva of
Tovey, IL, Breece and Ayla Hughes of Litchfield, IL, Jacob Masterson of
Kincaid, IL, Great-grandchildren Addrielle, Lucian, and Percy of Taylorville, IL, Fable Wren Fairbrother of Quincy, IL., brothers Robert (wife Gayla) Gudgel of Girard, IL., Paul (wife Tricia) Gudgel of Fancy Prairie, IL., Joseph Gudgel of
Tovey, IL., sisters Melissa (husband Dave) Cappellin of Jeisyville, IL., Annette Allen (companion Jeff Eddington) of Raymond, IL., Jacquelyn (husband Greg) Hosto of
Kincaid, IL., a brother-in-law Bruce Hundley of
Carlinville, IL, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years Nelson Hundley, Jr, a grandson Joseph Fairbrother, sisters Susan Gudgel, and Mildred "Midge" Willett, a brother Eugene Gudgel, Jr, and her 2 fur babies Dutch and Bella.
Visitation for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hundley will be held from 10 AM until Noon on Monday March 30, 2026 at Masterson Funeral Home in
Kincaid, IL. Her Funeral will immediately follow with Pastor Russ Burch of the Taylorville First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Mary will then be laid to rest beside SSG Hundley at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL. Those unable to attended are encouraged to leave a condolences here.
