Ithiel Thomas Obituary

Ithiel Harley Thomas III ("Tom") went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Tom was the son of the late Eugina and Ithiel Harley Thomas Jr. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Edward, Shirley, and Francis.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Melody; his sons, Ithiel H. Thomas IV and Bryan C. Thomas (and wife, Laura); his beloved granddaughter, Elise; and his brother, Wayne Thomas (and wife, Alma).
Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He completed Airborne training at Fort Bragg, served in Army Intelligence, and was stationed overseas in Germany. After returning home to Virginia Beach, he worked as a firefighter before finding his lifelong calling as a postal carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Norfolk.
Tom was a man of quiet strength and steady kindness. He had a creative spirit and loved working with his, often cut up hands. Whether he was building something out of scraps of wood, painting a new project, or just piddling in his workshop there was always a spark of love and joy in his creation. He found beauty in simple things and peace in the rhythm of everyday life.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 2 PM at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, officiated by Rev. Dr. Thurman Hayes. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
