Alvaro Mendoza Obituary

Alvaro Mendoza Contreras, 79, of Waukegan, IL. passed away at home on Friday, January 23, 2026. Alvaro was born in the Municipio De Ahualuco San Luis Potosi, Mexico on August 30, 1946 to Jose Luis Mendoza and Petra Mendoza Contreras. In his earlier years he ventured into amateur boxing, and became a bicycling enthusiast. He also loved to fish. He began employment repairing bicycles and eventually moved on to become a car mechanic and auto body repairman, which he enjoyed so much that he put off retiring, and was working up until last year. The IEA Company has made a donation to the St. Jude's Foundation in Alvaro Mendoza's name.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria M. Mendoza, his children; Carlos, Veronica, Claudia, Juanita, Jaime and Eric Mendoza, Grandchildren; Daniel W. Munoz, Abigail C. Munoz, Linda R. Munoz, Carlos Mendoza Jr., Elina Mendoza, Leonardo Mendoza, a daughter in law, Eliza Mendoza, great grandchildren; Sam M. Munoz, Eli M. Rushing, Addyline C.J. Rushing, Ezekiel G. Rushing, Rosalia L. Rushing, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings; Alfredo, Ascension and Louisa Mendoza Contreras.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm here at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 10:00 am at Queen of Peace Church, 910 14th St., North Chicago, IL He will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville, IL.
