Abraham "Abe" Froese, age 98, of Carmine, Texas passed away Friday January 9, 2026 at 8:35 p.m. at Baylor, Scott & White Hospital in College Station, TX, with family and friends at his side.
Abe's Mennonite grandparents migrated from the Ukrainian area of Russia to Kansas, in the mid-1870's. Abe was born April 11, 1927, in rural Buhler, Kansas to John and Anna (Gaeddert) Froese. The family moved to San Benito, TX, in 1936, and he attended San Benito High School. In April 1944, during World War II, Abe enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Towaliga AOG-42, a gasoline tanker transporting aviation fuel and diesel fuel to supply ships and remote stations in the Pacific Theater. He was credited with 23 months of sea duty during the war. His decorations include the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, and the American Area Campaign Medal. Upon returning home to Texas, He worked as a long-haul commercial truck driver and then as a certified aircraft mechanic for Braniff Air Line in Houston. He married his beloved wife, Euna Inmogene Dishough on July 28, 1952 and they were married 65 wonderful years at the time of her passing in 2018.
The couple purchased their farm in Carmine, Texas in 1958 and were weekend farmers for several years. Upon retirement, they moved to the farm full-time raising cattle, turkeys and geese, and baling hay. Abe and Inmogene enjoyed dancing with groups of friends, and traveling throughout South America, Asia and Europe, especially Germany. After Immogene's death, Abe remained living on the farm with the help of neighbors Billie and Deloris Koehl and Brenda Mueller.
