Worley "Geter" Bennett June 24, 1930- April 5, 2024
JOHNSON CITY - Worley "Geter" Bennett, age 93, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024, at his home after a brief illness.
Geter was born June 24, 1930, to the late Clayton Bennett and Ruby Butler Bennett in Carter County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Josephine Harvey, and they raised three children together. He retired from Happy Valley High School after working as a custodian for many years.
He was a member of Buffalo Valley Christian Church, where he greatly enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the men's fellowship. He loved Roland's chicken and dumplings!
After his retirement, Geter enjoyed woodworking, yardwork, anything automotive, and painting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Herman, Emory, Allen, Leroy, and Earl Bennett.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Josephine Bennett; children, Susan (Louie) Hopkins, Worley C. (Lisa) Bennett, and Marshall (Crystil) Bennett; grandchildren, Travis (Jessica) Hopkins, Chenoa (Andrew) Patton, and Rachel Bennett, and Lt. Gabriel Bennett; great-grandchildren, Ella Mae Hopkins and Everleigh Grace Hopkins; brother, Ira Bennett; several nieces and nephews; and his church family.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Those attending are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are directed to Buffalo Valley Christian Church (111 Buffalo Valley Church Road, Johnson City, TN 37601).

Geter and Josephine were dear friends with my parents Sam and Joy McKeehan Hawkins. I went to school with daughter Suzy. Good people. I know my Dad is happy seeing him again
