ELIZABETHTON - Coy Proffitt, age 97, passed away on Sunday morning, March 24, 2024 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN. Coy was born February 3, 1927 in Butler, TN to the late Harrison and Crathie Blackburn Proffitt. In addition to his parents, Coy was preceded in death by his loving wife, June Proffitt; son, Johnny Proffitt; grandchild, Shannon Proffitt, Richard Proffitt; sisters, Sue Wrinklewitz and Bertha Scott; brothers, Marvin Proffitt, Dorcy Proffitt, and Charles Proffitt.
Coy worked 25 years in the same building with different companies like Leco, Genesco, Greensboro Manufacturing and Levi Strauss as a janitor and night watchman. He was a hard worker and received a plaque for 7 years of perfect attendance. Coy also worked at Mountain City Lumber for over 7 years. Coy was the associate pastor at Calvary Baptist Church and attended there since it's opening, May 10, 1970. He also helped fill pulpits in the area, wherever he may be needed.
Those left to cherish his memories include his sons, Jack R. Proffitt and wife Renee, Greg Proffitt and wife Ann, and Tim Proffitt and wife Carolyn; daughter-in-law, Nancy Proffitt; brothers, Hantford Proffitt, Russell Proffitt, Ricky Proffitt grandchildren, Ethan Proffitt and wife Tonya, Amber Walls & husband Josh, Lexie Proffitt, LeAnn Brooks and husband Greg, Nichole Proffitt, Aron Freeman and Danielle, and Ashtin Rhymer and husband Anthony; great-grandchildren, Jacob Proffitt, Quinton Brooks, Aden Brooks, Arianna Brooks, Aubriella Rose Proffitt, Kyla Walls, Nathaniel Walls, Kreed Walls, A.J. Freeman, Easton Freeman, Kasen Rhymer, and Maeleigh Rhymer; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven Spencer officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from Reece Memorial Cemetery Military honors to be accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Jack Proffitt, Greg Proffitt, Ethan Proffitt, Tim Proffitt, Quinton Brooks, Aiden Brooks, Jacob Proffitt, and Greg Brooks. Honorary pallbearers are the Men's Sunday School Class.
