William Grove Obituary

William "Bill" Edward Grove, 86, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. Born on March 3, 1939, he was the son of the late James A. Grove and Helen Leather Grove.

Bill graduated from Frederick High School in 1957 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps for five years. Following his service, he built a long and respected career with the U.S. Postal Service, ultimately retiring as Postmaster.

A devoted community member, Bill was an active and proud member of the Francis Scott Key Lions Club, where he formed lifelong friendships and dedicated countless hours to serving others.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Marlene Grove; his son, Jeff Grove; his daughter, Jami Alexander; and his two cherished granddaughters, Ellie and Leah Alexander. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Grove, and sister-in-law, Marie Ritenour.

Bill will be remembered for his integrity, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and community. His sense of humor, warm heart, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Frederick Health Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Bill's final days.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held in 2026.

In place of flowers, please make a donation in Bill's name to The American Cancer Society.

Pat & Family. So sorry to hear about Bill's passing. Neighbors we were and neighbors we are. We go back don't we? Hard to believe so much time has passed. We have truly loved and lost so many in those years. In seeing Jeff once in a while it appeared Bill had been having a rough time lately. My apologies for living so close and not visiting. I know that my Mom was always so happy to see Bill when he would deliver her prescription drugs, he was one happy and friendly guy. There are no words at this time to ease the pain and the empty feeling that you are going through. But praying as each day passes you will find peace. Love to all.

Mr. Grove was the definition of the word gentleman. When I lived in Frederick and attended Calvary United Methodist, he never failed to stop and chat with me, asking about college or my career...and he ALWAYS had a smile on his face. He was genuinely happy to hear about the lives of others and share a story. This is the definition of showing God's love by caring for others. For his family and friends, I pray the happy memories of this wonderful man will eclipse the sorrow of his loss. May we all take a lesson from him on how to love others. Please know he is in Heaven with Jesus.
