William Crawford Obituary

GRAY - William W. "Bill" Crawford, 82, Gray, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
He was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late Earl and Bertha Baker Crawford.
William was a 1960 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State College. He served in the USAF (1961-1965) during the Vietnam Era and Cuban Crisis. He retired after 27 years of service with Piedmont/US Air.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Crawford, Earl Crawford, Jr., and T.L. Crawford.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Patricia Crawford; son, whom he was so proud of, William "Brian" Crawford, daughter, whom he was so proud of, Janet Howe and husband Allen; grandson, whom he adored and loved to teach how to fish, Joshua Howe; brother, Roy Crawford; several nieces, nephews, and sister- in-law.
A graveside service and inurnment will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Mountain Home National Cemetery with Chaplain Sallie Biles, officiating. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate in memory of William.

Trish, I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I can't imagine your loss after 56 years. Wish I could be there for you, but it's just not possible. We are sending our love and prayers and a warm hug. I will call you in a few days. Love you!

I grew up with Bill in the 1950s. We were close friends in high school. Although I left Johnson City in the mid-1960s, we maintained communications. It´s hard to put in words the friendship that was forged or the joy that lasted over six decades. He will continue to be a major figure in my life.
