JOHNSON CITY - Wesley Russell Stapleton, age 81, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, a son of the late Wesley Stapleton and Belva Harless Stapleton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Buster Stapleton; and one sister, Carolyn Snodgrass.
Russell was a graduate from Lynn View High School and had worked for Mead Paper Company for 47 years. He loved spending time in the outdoors, fishing and hunting which he had previously done out West, Canada, and many local fisheries. He also enjoyed woodworking, antique cars and trucks. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Catherine Click Stapleton; one daughter, Robin Whitaker; one step daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Bales Erwin and husband Joe Erwin; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Jane Parrott; five grandchildren, Brad Whitaker, Austin Whitaker, Ashley Whitaker, Michael Erwin, and Sarah Erwin; one sister, Barbara Stapleton; and one niece, Cindy Whitten.
A Committal Service and Interment will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 2:00PM in the Garden of Peace at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Pastor Gene Elliott officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU Physicians and staff at the Johnson City Medical Center for all the love and care that was shown.
