Prof. Vishwa M. Sakhare August 28, 1932 - April 16, 2024
JOHNSON CITY - Prof. Vishwa M. Sakhare, of Johnson City, TN passed away peacefully on April 16, 2024.
"Daddy" is survived by sons Raj, Ravi, and Anil, and younger sister Dr Vibhavati B Khanapuri (India). Grandchildren Ashwin, Anisha, Julian, Olivia, and Devin; Daughters-in-Law Amy and Shruti. May his memory endure with his entire extended family, numerous students, and countless friends whom he cherished as much as his own.
He was born in Belgaum, India to Prof. M.R. Sakhare and Mrs. P.M. Sakhare. He was married to his devoted wife Sheela V. Sakhare (1938-2015) for nearly 60 years. Dr Vishwa Sakhare immigrated to the United States in 1959 and retired as Professor of Mathematics Emeritus at East Tennessee State University.
Vishwa had an enduring passion for education, teaching, and mentorship well beyond the classroom. He advocated for the underdog whether it was socioeconomic, athletics, or the plant and animal world. His most enjoyable hobbies were spending time with family and friends, gardening, bird watching, and travel. We have many fond memories of him as a tennis player, puzzle builder, and Sudoku enthusiast. He remained forever loyal both to his mother country, India, and to his adopted country, USA.

I remember that Dr. Sakhare was always a student "favorite" for all the reasons that described his life and character in his obituary. Indeed, he did influence generations of students and his legacy continues. My sincere condolences to his family. Wilsie Bishop, Vice President for Health Affairs Emerita, ETSU
