JOHNSON CITY - Virginia "Mammy" Ruth Peters, 91, Johnson City, passed away with her family by her side, Thursday, November 30, 2023, the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born in Jonesborough on September 11, 1932, to the late John Richmond and Mary Hilton Peters.
Mammy was a member of South Side Baptist Church and attended Clark Street Baptist Church. She was the honorary grandmother to so many children and as they have grown into adults. They still have precious memories of times spent at her house. Mammy retired from Mayes Brothers Tool Manufacturing Co. where she worked as a vile setter. She loved to drink coffee and quilt. Mammy enjoyed trips to the beach, it was her happy place. You never left seeing her without a smile on your face and advice in your heart. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
In addition to her parents Mammy was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Carl "Bud" Peters and Thurman Peters; a sister, Charlotte Louise Cole; niece, Lisa Clark; nephews, Ronnie Peters and Aaron Cole.
Survivors include nieces, Teresa Whitlock (John), Judy Wiley (Harry), Connie Story (Darrell), Karen Sysks (Jeff); nephew, Gary Cole; great nieces, Brandi Nave (Andrew), Angie Garland (Billy), Ashley Stirling (Matthew), Brandi O'Sheilds; great-great nieces and nephews, Terra Ellis, Kayley Sells, Andrea Nave, Alissa Lane (Cheyenne), Randal Nave, Zakkary Wiseman, Makenna Durrance (Cody); great-great-great nieces and nephews, Carter McGee, Jax Morris, Ellie Pancake, Oliver, Pancake, Paisley Riley, Ezra Durrance; several other family members and special friends who love Mammy dearly.
The funeral service for Mammy will be conducted Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 8:00 P.M. from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Pastor William Lunceford, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the East Parlor of the funeral home.
The graveside committal service will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in Oak Hill Cemetery, Johnson City. Pallbearers will be Bobby Morris, Derek Rutherford, Kevin Hoilman, Zakkary Wiseman, Will Beagle, Carter McGee, Jax Morris. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 A.M.
