Vida Juanita Bunting, 90, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Butler, Tennessee on September 4, 1933 to the late Glenn and Polly Snyder. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and received both her B.S. and Master's degree at East Tennessee State University. She also received an Education Specialist Degree from Appalachian State University.
She began her teaching career in Johnson County in an elementary school and then Vida and Doran moved to Chicago where she taught for several years. They later returned to Johnson County, and she became the Librarian at Johnson County High School, from which she retired at the age of 70, making her one of the longest- tenured teachers in Johnson County.
Vida was an active member of Baker's Gap Baptist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational sorority, in which she held several offices. She was an avid reader and flower lover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Doran C. Bunting; sister, Eleanor Hollaway Vannoy, a niece, Peggy Hollaway and nephew, Michael Hollaway.
She is survived by her son, Douglas Norris of Mountain City; her sisters, Fran Kitchell of Mountain City, Wilma Bunting of Kingsport, and Norma Ransom (Frank) of Butler; sister-in-law, Sue Bunting; brothers- in- law, Mac Bunting and Harold Bunting; granddaughter, Heather Norris; niece and nephews, Karen Yarber, Glenn Ransom and Roger Ransom, David Kitchell and Kenny Kitchell and several great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on Monday October 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Peterson and Reverend James Richardson officiating. The eulogy will be given by Reverend Bryant Collins.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Monday October 2, 2023 at Hux & Lipford Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
The entombment will follow immediately after the service at Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum of Love
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baker's Gap Baptist Church in care of Faye Davis 6909 Big Dry Run Road, Butler, Tennessee 37640 or to the Johnson County Rescue Squad 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683
