Verlie Williams Obituary

Verlie Dockery Williams

January 18, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother, Verlie Dockery Williams who left this world peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Despite our sadness, we also find joy in knowing she is with the Lord and other loved ones who have gone before her, and that she lived a life of integrity, accomplishment, and generosity worth emulating.

Born in Del Rio, Tennessee, Verlie was one of nine children. She grew up learning the meaning of hard work and the value of family. Upon graduation from Parrotsville High School, she moved to Johnson City, where she later met her husband of almost sixty years, Norman Williams.

Verlie retired after a thirty-year career as group buyer for cosmetics, lingerie, and accessories for Belk, Inc. department stores. Her many buying trips to Atlanta, Charlotte and New York brought her great enjoyment and the opportunity to form lifelong friendships.

Verlie was a longtime member of First Church of God, which she served faithfully for many years. She remained active throughout her life and always enjoyed family and friend gatherings.

Verlie was preceded in death by her parents, Lattie and Geneva Dockery; husband, Norman Williams; infant son, Stephen Williams; infant brother, Lattie Dockery; sisters, Edna Haney, CL Trentham, Zollie Berry; and brother, Don Dockery.

She is survived by her three loving children, Donna Wilson (Jerry) of Kennesaw, GA, Mike Williams (Charlotte) of Kingsport, and Janice Morris (Tom) of Johnson City; grandchildren, Brandon Wilson (Laura), Beth Prangley (Chris), Lindsay Smith (Ryan), Brent Morris (Daniela), Chris Williams, Paige (Adrian) Walters and thirteen loving great- grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Dockery and Conley Dockery; and sister, Marie Miller.

The family would like to thank the employees of NHC, Kristy Draper, the nurses and CNA's on station 4. Your care, love and support during this journey will not be forgotten.

The graveside service will be held Friday, January 23, 2026, at 10:00 am in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those who wish to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 9:50 am.

The funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 23, 2026, at 5:00 pm from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Pastor Ron G. McEwen, officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00-5:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Church of God, 801 West Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37604.

We loved having Verlie as a neighbor for several years. And we have great memories of our walks around the neighborhood, she definitely could walk fast! I enjoyed seeing her beautiful home and quilts also.
Sincere sympathy to the family. May God comfort you thru this difficult time.
