CHUCKEY - Vera Foster Helton, age 90, of Chuckey, formerly of Erwin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in the Johnson City Medical Center, while she was surrounded by her family. She is a daughter of the late Melvin Lloyd and Elva Brackins Lloyd. Vera lived most of her life in Unicoi County.

She was formerly employed at Morrill Motors where she was a machine operator for several years. Vera's favorite job was being a homemaker and growing a vegetable garden. She was an excellent cook and Vera enjoyed making beautiful flower arrangements.

She was a member of the Church of God at Douglas Lake. Vera loved the Lord with all her heart. She loved singing gospel hymns with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Doyle Foster and her second husband, Walter Helton; one daughter, Nancy Foster; one son, Terry Lee Foster; brother, Earl Lloyd; sister, Velda Hendrix; stepdaughter, Donna Wright.

Vera leaves behind to cherish her memory, her two daughters: Sonya Wilson-Osgood (Matthew) of Knoxville and Joyce Payne (Danny) of Chuckey; two step children: Judy Fields (Raymond) and Diane Waddell (Dennis) all of Mooresburg; brother, Zane Lloyd of Erwin; four grandchildren: Richard Wilson, Eric Foster (Ashley), Daniel Payne (Feather) and Leslie Foster; four great grandchildren: Dorian Foster, Andrew Foster, Lucas Foster, and Jacob Marin; three step grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Verna Foster; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the funeral home chapel. Vera's funeral will be held at 12:00 noon with Pastor Roger Nethers officiating. Interment will follow in Unaka Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Wilson, Daniel Payne, Eric Foster, Dorian Foster, Andrew Foster, and Chris Payne.
