Velma Fritz Obituary

Velma Joan Peterson Fritz

February 23, 2025

JOHNSON CITY - Velma Joan Peterson Fritz, 104, Johnson City, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Abundant Christian Living.

She was born in Cassville, WI and was the daughter of Edwin and Ella Gurney Peterson.

Velma was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church and part of the generation that grew up during the Great Depression. She married before her husband was deployed to World War II and raised their family in the 1950s. Despite moves to Chicago and Johnson City, Velma's heart remained in her home state of Wisconsin. She had a passion for cats, flowers, playing cards, and cherished her grandchildren above all.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Carl Fritz, and son-in-law, Randy Shultz.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Shultz and Nancy Berry (Danny); five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, Richard Peterson (Martha).

There will be a private graveside service for Velma in Mountain Home National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Abundant Christian Living for their exceptional care and kindness during their mother's 11-year stay in independent living and her recent two-month period in healthcare. They deeply appreciate the outstanding support provided to both their mother and the family.
