The family of Tracy George Trott announces his peaceful passing on January 25, 2026, in his home, encircled by his loving family. Tracy was born to Theodore ""Ted"" and Kathleen ""Kay"" Trott on July 27, 1956, in Augusta, Maine, and was raised in Randolph, Maine, where his childhood was spent surrounded by friends and family. From an early age, Tracy loved playing sports and was fiercely competitive. He played basketball, baseball, and golf and treasured his teammates, many of whom became lifelong friends. His favorite sports teams were the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics, and he spent hours watching their telecasts and listening to the radio calls of their games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Timmy Trott and sister Thea Ruth Pierce.

Tracy approached everything with a standard of excellence, from the organization of his garage to his studies at East Tennessee State University. There he was named Distinguished Major in Law Enforcement by the Criminal Justice faculty in 1976, Distinguished Graduate Student in 1994, and an Outstanding Alumni in 2017. Tracy began his law enforcement career as part of the ETSU Police Department in 1976, and joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 1978. He served the THP for 40 distinguished years until his retirement in 2018, having achieved the rank of Colonel. Throughout his career, he exemplified unwavering professionalism, pride, and honor. His leadership, commitment to public safety, and devotion to the men and women of the THP left a lasting impact on the agency and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His drive to improve officer safety and reduce highway fatalities was felt and recognized at both the state and national level. With his passion for leadership and safety, upon his retirement Tracy founded a consulting business and continued to work with the law enforcement community. His legacy will live on through the lives of those he encouraged, mentored, and inspired.
Tracy's family will remember countless fall Saturdays in Neyland Stadium as they cheered on the Vols and sang "Rocky Top." He loved sports cars, cherries in the summer, barbecue, new sneakers, and growing potatoes. He and Meredith enjoyed entertaining friends and family alike. They spent many years hosting loved ones in their home and at Fourth of July celebrations. Tracy was a passionate landscaper. He mulched deeply, trimmed profusely, and mowed at only the highest of speeds. Tracy's love of dogs was well known amongst all who knew him; to be Tracy's dog was to be a lucky pup.

Tracy was a member of First Christian Church in Elizabethton for forty years where he had served as a deacon and elder. The family would like to express special thanks to his many friends and the congregation of FCC for prayers and expressions of concern. Tracy's family is also grateful for his many faithful caregivers during his illness, including Jordan Meredith, Jason Chaney, Anna Edens, and Lorie Tilson.
He is survived by his devoted family, wife Meredith Trott, of Elizabethton; son Joey Trott of Knoxville, TN; daughter Laura Trott, her husband Jason Yoo, and treasured grandson Henry Yoo, of Atlanta, GA; brother Tyler Trott and wife Carol of West Gardiner, ME; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be missed beyond measure.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643 on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM with Mr. Michael Klaus, minister and Com. David W. Purkey {RTD}, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Saturday.

The graveside service will follow in the Patton Simmons Cemetery in the Milligan Community of Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be the THP Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Hardin, Jimmy Barton, John Albertson, Doran Stout, Jonathan Street, Com. David W. Purkey {RTD}, Dereck Stewart, Tony Barham, Garry Nave, Leonard February, Danny Talley, Stephen Street, Dean Hurley, members of the THP, and the Gardiner Area High School 1974 basketball team.
