ELIZABETHTON - Thurman Shirrell Bowers, age 76, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. He was the son of Hicks and Pearl Wilson Bowers and was born on July 29, 1948 in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fane Bowers, Gene Bowers and Allen Bowers and one sister, Maude Netherton.
Shirrell retired from Summers-Taylor, Inc. after 47 years of service. He was a 1967 graduate of Unaka High School and a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. He served in the United States Army from 1969-1970. Shirrell was an avid fan of UT Girl's Basketball, NASCAR Racing and the Unaka Rangers.
Those left to cherish his many memories include his wife of 57 years Judy Bowers of the home; one brother, Ernest Bowers of Elizabethton; two sisters, Gaylene Woodby of Hampton and Dorothy Baird of Franklin, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Shirrell's life will be conducted at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Gary Kemp officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM prior to the service on Saturday or at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2024 in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Randy Norris, Michael Bowers, Kenny Lowe, Jeff Bowers, Chuck Bowers and Jason Buckles. Honorary pallbearers will be Willard Loveless, Randy (Bo) Bowers, Dewey Bowers, Kenneth Lowe, Harold Lynn Arnold and Joel Crisp. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 PM on Sunday.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
