JOHNSON CITY - Tedd Steven Garland, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to rest on 12/21/2023 at the age of 92 years old, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erwin, TN to the late Carrick M. Garland and Myrtle B. Garland.
Tedd proudly served in the U.S. Navy before his lifelong career in the transportation industry beginning with E.T. & W.N.C and ending with ABF Freight Systems. Ever the hard worker, Tedd returned to the workforce after retirement to serve at K-Mart for 20 years. Tedd was an active member of the Tennessee Motor Transportation Association until his retirement, where he held many offices, including the liaison between the TMTA and the Tennessee Legislative Body. He was appointed Colonel Aide-De-Camp to the Governor's Staff, a great honor, by Governor Winfield Dunn. He was a 50-year member of Areme O.E.S. #466 and a past member of the Optimist Club and Lions Club.
Tedd was an active member of Central Baptist Church and his beloved Rigell Sunday School Class for over 50 years. He was honored to serve as an usher and various other roles in the church. Tedd enjoyed golf, Tennessee Vols sports, and spending time with his family, as well as his beloved 4-pawed companions, Bailee and Willow. Tedd was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his bride of almost 71 years, Ruby Garland, as well as the joys of his life, daughter Lisa (Mark) Runge, and only granddaughter Brooke Garland, all of Johnson City. He also leaves behind a brother, Ray (Susie) Garland, his special nephew Michael (Pam) Garland, and several other nieces and nephews. Surviving family and friends will remember Tedd as a strong, kind, Godly man, who cared fiercely and steadfastly for his family above all else. He will be dearly missed.
A Private Committal Service and Interment will be held in the Freedom Garden at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Gene Elliott and Rev. Tony Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Central Baptist Church (300 N Roan, 37601) or your local animal shelter in remembrance.
