Suzy was unequivocally one of a kind. I have several memories but two that come to mind are teaching one of the VBS classes (mine was in Sam Sells' classroom) when we were doing the tabernacle. Her knowledge, skill, energy, creativity was peerless. Plus, let's be honest, if you were walking down the hall and saw her coming you'd better duck into a side room if you didn't want to be given more jobs to do. LOLOL!
I also remember being on the phone with Suzy and when she was finished with what she wanted to say, she would just hang up. LOL! I LOVED that! I was expecting the typical Southern slow dragging way of ending a conversation but I found myself with air on the other end of the phone. Respect. That. was. awesome! I wanted to do the same thing so I always knew I could be myself with her because we were similar in a lot of ways. No nonsense. Cut to the chase. Direct/blunt. A lot of people are uncomfortable with that but I loved it. Get to the point and move on.
Suzy served others in action. She was a problem-solver. She was intelligent always seemed to know who to contact for help. Her mind would cut to the heart of the matter and our city is better off for her service on various boards. She didn't wallow around in minutiae.
I look forward to seeing her again when my numbered days are over!
