BLUFFTON, SC, - Susan Johnson Lowe, 83, a native of Johnson City, passed away at her home in Bluffton, SC, on Thursday, December 7, 2023.
Susan was the daughter of the late Charles and Imogene McCorkle Johnson.
She attended Johnson City public schools, graduating from Science Hill High School in 1958. While in high school, Susan enjoyed many friends and events. She then attended East Tennessee State College for three and a half years, where she met her future husband, Felix Lowe, and it was love at first sight. Once married, Felix, Susan and their two sons moved from location to location as Felix climbed the corporate ladder. While Felix worked, Susan and her sons remained busy playing soccer. Susan was literally a "soccer mom" as she starred on a number of men's soccer teams.
Later in retirement, Susan and Felix traveled six continents. They also enjoyed playing tennis daily. After Felix passed away in 2020, Susan occupied her time with the Castaway Pickle Ball Club, the Hampton Lake Bridge Club, playing tennis, where she played well enough to win a Senior Tennis Tournament, resuming her world travels and was a Jeopardy Scholar. Susan will be remembered as a physically active, independently strong woman, and a person who made friends all across the earth. She was a member of Lowcountry Presbyterian Church in Bluffton, where she served on various committees and remained active in church events.
Susan is survived by her sons, Josh Lowe and Chris Lowe; Chris's children, Carleigh and Shane Lowe, who were the apple of her eye; her brother, Richard Johnson and wife Patsy; several cousins.
The Graveside funeral service for Susan will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., in Monte Vista Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601. Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 P.M. Thursday.
In-lieu-of flowers, contributions may be made in Susan's honor to Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC 29910.

We are still in shock.
Susan was such a vibrant woman. She lived a rich, interesting and full life, just not long enough.
We feel blessed to have been together in August 2023. She looked terrific and was positive and upbeat; we had no idea that it would be our last time together.
We are sad for Susan, family and friends and keep everyone in our thoughts.
With sympathy and wishes for blessings, health and healing.

Dear Richard, Chris and Josh,
I was shocked and saddened to learn of Susan´s passing. She was so vibrant the last time I saw her, and I looked forward to meeting up with her in Johnson City or South Carolina.
Susan and Felix were such an important presence in our lives when we lived in Truro- so long ago, but I remember it with great fondness!
I send deepest sympathy. Her lively, energetic spirit will be missed!

I found 3 more recent pictures. One was of Me and Susan taken at her front door right before we headed back to Tampa, FL on Oct 24th, 2023 before we even knew she was ill. It happened so fast and unexpected. If anyone has any pictures and/or memories of Susan please add for her family to see. Especially Carleigh and Shane , her grandchildren.

Susan was my dearest friend most of my life. From the 5th grade until now and I will miss her more than I can say. I last saw her in late October when my daughter in law drove with me to Bluffton to visit her for a few days. I am so thankful that I went then. We had no idea that would be the last time we would see each other. I will miss her and I have great memories of her always. I´ll see you again in heaven dear friend. Chris, Josh, Carliegh, Shane, Richard and Patsy my prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of you mom, sister and grandmother. Love you , Prissy
